I {HEART} Cardio!

Hey there! Over the past couple of weeks, I have had several clients state “I hate cardio! Isn’t there anything else I can do?!” Well, there is …. but why? Why do they hate cardio that much?? I received various answers but the most popular two were ::

  1. It’s boring
  2. It’s repetitive

Here was my response to both :: It doesn’t have to be!

Once I explained my answer and gave them a workout, their minds changed almost immediately. And I thought I would share my explanation with you as well

But first, let’s talk about cardio. It does more than get your heart rate up, increase blood circulation and torch some serious calories. Cardio also …

  • Improves over all heart health – Your heart is a muscle and in order to strengthen it, you must treat it as one. Cardio makes your heart work by increasing your blood circulation and working to increase your heart rate.
  • Increases your metabolism – Yes, you read that right! Formats such as HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) will not only burn calories but it also goes into Excess Post-Exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC). This means burning additional calories for up to 24 – 36 hours AFTER your workout!
  • Improves your over all endurance during ALL workouts.
  • Reduces stress and fatigue – During cardio workouts your body release hormones that help fight symptoms of both.
  • Increases confidence levels!
  • Stabilizes hormonal balance – Cardio helps release good hormones leaving you to feel happy!

Cardio is very beneficial for you and it doesn’t have to be boring! Here are some great ways to switch up your cardio routine::

  • Swimming – switch up your strokes if you can
  • Running – try adding sprints. Ex: :30 sprint / :60 steady pace run – 10 x’s
  • Play tag with your little’s
  • Jump on the trampoline with your little’s
  • Cardio ladder
  • Dancing
  • Jumping rope

The first step is to get started! Find an activity that gets you moving and your heart rate up … and keep your body consistently moving!
